To Watch or not to watch

Those of you who have read my past post in the

last couple of months, know I have gave up talking,

posting about politics… And know I will be thrilled when

it is all over…

So tonight, will I watch the debates or not.. That is a good question.

I really don’t know the answer..

See, debates are usually just the same old garbage, the candidates

saying the usual stuff… and give the answers they think the public

wants. I guess you can watch and wait for the flub ups or at least the

ones that the media will pick.  I have thought of skipping it, and let the

newscaster and etc. tell me who was the one who did the best.. but

that would be the lazy way of doing it.

So I might break down and actually watch it.. Maybe I will read a book

while it is on, and look up if there is something interesting said. At least

it won’t or shouldn’t be as bad as the one Palin did. That woman double

talked… I looked at my husband when she did hers, and said.. what did

she say? I hear the words, but they didn’t say anything.. He could tell me

either. At least I know these two will not be like that. At least I hope not.

I just want to get it over with. Never in all my life, have I seen such a horrible

election… think I might be using my old 2004 vote.. With Bush and Kerry.

NONE OF ABOVE..   Some think that is a cop out, but I found it refreshing.

Putting the garden to bed for the winter

October 2, 2012

Putting the garden to bed for the winter.

It is that time of the year...

Frost is on the horizon and we know that

the rest of the garden will fall.

Actually mine already fell a few weeks back when

we had an overnight frost.. just one night but it

did it's job. We harvest what we had left.

I had two tomato plants I babied, trying to get the

tomatoes to redden up.. Finally gave up on it. And

I picked them all, put them in boxes to ripen if they will.

Next year we are going to try a new way of gardening. We

will keep our raised beds. But I shoved out last week,

about 4 inches of the old dirt. I laid down newspaper and

laid compost about 3 inches thick on top of that. Next will

be wood chips. But need to find the right kind of wood.

Cedar and Alder are a no no...

Looking forward to this new type.. as it is suppose to

be less watering.. and also plants (vegetables) are

suppose to come out cleaner. And they say..no weeds,

but that remains to be seen.  So have it almost set

up and then let the winter have the garden…and see

what results we have next year.

These tomatoes look more like Halloween candy...

Generations...so that is why....

We have a gal who is the Chamber of Commerce
President. She is a kick butt type of a gal, as anyone
who has seen the Angels over Sandpoint Follies.
And for those who wonder, if this gal can be serious,
the answer is yes. She takes her office very serious.
And Sandpoint is richer for it.

She also does a column called Greater Sandpoint Chamber.
This week, she had subject of great interest to me.. kind of a
ah-ha moment..  So  I hope Kate McAlister doesn't mind me
borrowing some of her column... For those who want to read
the whole column, Read the Bonner Biz section of the Daily
Bee ... Thursday, September 27th issue. Here is what her
words of wisdom.. about generations and what each one
means.
Generattion of 1900 to 1945 ... TRADITONALIST
Kate says there are 75 million of us still around.

Boomers 1946 to 1964 of which Kate tells us there are
80 million of them.

Generation "X" those born between 1965 to 1980
which Kate says is the lowest of all..46 million
And lastly, coming up is Generation "Y" (Millennials) 1981 to 2000

And this is where Kate gives me the AH-HA moment...
She says that the Traditionalist are the generation of chain of
command: of loyalty meaning they trusted their companies because they were trustworthy, and you went to work for them, for the rest of your life.
(Kate's thoughts, my words)

Then the Boomers are the optimistic, believing in the change of
command, as the country was recovering from a war, and everything
was starting to take off again. They got television and life was considered good. (again Kate's thoughts, my words)

Lastly the "X" are the ones who are skeptical. Self command..
And this one is the "ah_ha" moment that makes sense.
Kate says, that the "X" generation are skeptics because of how life
changed so much.  Cable television (with adult entertainment) video games,
bring isolation, instead of the neighborhood playground. Cell phones,
computers, violence games and movies. Drugs more in your face now.
AIDS, the "me" group, Single parents, latch key kids,  (Kate's
thoughts, my words)

It all makes a lot more sense to me... Also I can add.. that the
Traditionalist were ones who lived near their parents.. either next
door or in the neighborhood.  So it was job and housing the same
for years... My parents were very much like that. They had the house
I was raised in for 20 years, and then built one 8 miles away for later
in their lives. Dad did over 35 years in civil service job he had and Mom
of course, like the women of that time, were stay at home Mom.
While I am from the same generation, I am on kind of the cuff.. and I
was raised during the boomer generation.. being 5 years old when it
started.  So was a bridge between the two.

The Boomer was starting to be on the move. Women were starting to
be in the work force. Some times out of divorce, as that was starting to
be more common and not a scandal as it was before. But still be some
what loyal to the job. And women juggling both, if forced out into the
job market. And women started looking for an outside of the family, as
their time... their meaning...after the children were out of the household.
Some went back to school and then a job, that was hers.
Some causing divorces because the spouses grew apart.  And marriages
partners didn't have the thoughts of the Traditionalist, of working hard
to keep the marriage together.  ( I say this in general) They also were
on the move.. some staying in the same state or near by states. With
few going across country.

The "X" Generation, really on the move, across country, different
countries. Jobs are lasting 3 to 8 years. Changing houses more
often, And the credit card.. way widely used. Maxing out for many.
Instead of one or two credit cards, it is common for 8 credit cards.

The "Y" Generation is a growth out of the "X" Generation maxed
out. Buying on line. Computers bring everything to them. Education,
knowledge, books, and newspapers.  Slowly things of the past
are going to the wayside. Many newspapers are folding, as books.
Encyclopedias, cook books and etc are gone.. Now you carry a I-pad
or a cell phone with apps. that will bring up anything you want to know.
The entitlement generation, who is more on the move than the "X"'
were, everything is disposable.. Products, as well as lives, relationships
it is get it to me NOW.

What is Generation "Z" going to be like? Will any of it turn around?
As a Traditionalist slash Boomer raised.. it is all confusing. Things
that were true before, are not now or are being changed. It is hard to make
these changes for those of us who are still around.  Now I understand
how my grandfather felt when my generation brought Rock and Roll,
faster cars, bigger and better everything.... how hard it must have been for him.
Especially when at the age of 76, he has a granddaughter move in with
him, who is 18. Generation gap for sure.

But thanks Kate McAlister, because now it starts to make sense to my
generation.

Recalculating....

Saw a story on television yesterday about an automatic

car.  It has a GPS system in it... You can program where

you are going and the car will take you there. Didn't see

if it will park the car for you or not. Maybe there will be

sensors on the curb that will tell if the parking space is

empty.  But one has to wonder, what happens if a human

parks a car? After all, we all know how humans are great

about parking a car not exactly in an area, where other cars

can park too. Even the side by side parking area's have

vehicles that straddle the line...taking two parking space.

So will they have all cars automatically park the car?  Which

would not be a bad thing.  And will blind people be able to

drive after they have automatic drivable cars? They can get in,

program by Braille keys  and off they go.  Also other handicap

people can drive. Have where a wheel chair can load in the

front seat, the person program the car and off they go.

The only problem I have with all of this.... and think about this,

all of you who have GPS systems (be it installed or portable),

what are the words from the GPS that you hate hearing......

RECALCULATING... RECALCULATING... and that is when

you override the GPS, because you know a shorter route, or

the GPS is directing you down the wrong way on a one way

street... which the system, didn't know about.  And those road

changes, that where just months ago were fields and now are

highways and the old highway is gone...

RECALCULATING, RECALCULATING.. RECALCULTING...

RECALCULATING..... ETC..

Nope, I am not ready for automatic driven cars yet. But they say it

is about 10 years away, so I will either not be able to drive by that

time or won't be here to see it.... And if I get to look down to see

all the cars gather at an intersection.. not hitting each other but standing there with all the cars GPS.... in a circle trying to get thru

the intersection.... with all the GPS's in unison ....RECALCULATING... RECALCULATING.... and smile.

Can you say, road rage...  the system and the drivers...

Names that make you shudder...

Why is it when someone uses your name in full, you

shudder?  At least I do.. Authority uses it and you shake.

IRS, Doctors, Police Officers, Dentist, Teachers, anyone

who uses your full name... And especially those who use

your legal name when you use a nick name with friends.

Have you figured out why that is? I sure know why. It wasn't

true of my father.. and most fathers don't get the reaction.

But YOUR MOTHER... who else when has had it with you..

used your full name, and not in awe...lol..

Then there is some of us, who not only use the full name when

you are trying to rein in your child...but when the household

has multiple children... as ours did.. sometimes you have to go

thru the list of name until you get the right one. Putting every

one on alert.

So, next time someone says your full name and a slight shudder

comes across your shoulders.. .... it is your mother's fault. lol

September 25

Life is not fair...

And I taught that to my children. You live with it,

deal with it and go on... It is life.

I read recently in my home state of Rhode Island that a

school has stop having father/ daughter dances or dinners.

Why, you ask? Because there is a woman who is a single mom

and her daughter didn't have a father to go to the dinner with.

In the old days, when such things came up.. there were men in

the woman's life that would fill in. Uncles, Grandfathers, Brothers, or a good friend of the family...

Why didn't this woman have such a person go to the dinner

with her daughter? Why did she chose to shut down a long

time tradition? How selfish of her. To ruin for so many other,

because she couldn't come up with a solution. And shame on

the school for feeding into the selfishness.

Parents have to teach their children that life IS NOT FAIR.

Never will be, all the time. They need to learn how to cope,

with disappointment. Some days are roses and some days

are thorns.

As we women say, pull up your big girl pants and deal

with it.. and get on with life.

Another happy, sad time...

Today, I go to a funeral of a  friend...a co-worker of 15 years.

Yesterday I got to see another friend, who goes back

43 years, when we first got pregnant with what we

thought would be the last child for each of us. It was for

me, and she had one more.

So much has happen in those 43 years. Great deal of

happiness and sadness. Both of us remarried. She has

gone on to a foreign country, to find a wonderful French

man, who has made her life the happiness she has ever

been.

And every year, my friend returns to the states to see her

children and her growing family, of grandchildren and now

great grandchildren.  Sisters and brothers.  She with her husband has traveled across Europe.

Who would have thought, over 42 years ago, as we sat in a small

restaurant in the little town of Cle Elum. Both of us pregnant

and for entertainment, we would go down for coffee around

midnight to people watch as the bar crowd stumbled out to

find coffee to get them home. Didn't take much to entertain us.

lol...

Safe trip back home, my friend Pat... God Bless until we meet

again.

Yesterday, gladness and sadness

On September 19th,  our family... son #3,

had an addition... They now have a sweet little boy.

Making the number you see on the side, up to 20

grandchildren... and also this summer we got another

great grandchild.. making that number 13.

But also yesterday, I learn that a fellow worker passed

away, on Monday. We had worked together about 12

years.  The good Lord giveth, and taketh.

My fellow worker, had gotten married a few years ago,

to a wonderful man who made her so happy, and a great

love and joy to her.  So she will be missed. By now only

her husband, but her children and many grandchildren and

I would imagine great-grandchildren.

To my son, and his wife, we celebrate new life. An addition

to his family, now makes 4. He was born on his great grand

father's birthday and carries his great grandfather's Hawaiian

name. What a wonderful tradition my son and wife keep going.

I HATE CHANGE...
NO, I MEAN IT... I HATE CHANGE...

So imagine my face when I went to post my blog for
Tuesday, and found a completely new page. Nothing at
all the same. I thought I had clicked on the wrong page..

BLOGSPOT... I think you should at least forward us
that you are changing things...

I suppose after I get use to it, it won't be so bad.. just
I ...HATE...CHANGE...

strolling off, kicking stones, mumbling to myself...
I hate change...

It is coming...

I am not really into fall yet.

I am hanging on to summer for dear life.

But as you can see from the picture.. it is coming.

Someone posted on Facebook yesterday.. that

CHRISTMAS IS IN 15 WEEKS!!!

BAH, HUMBUG!!!  I hate it when they do that.

We have not had HOLLOWEEN nor have we had

THANKSGIVING yet... Don't throw Christmas at me.

Like I said... I am hanging on to summer. I still wear my

shorts, and tee shirts... I have not started to put my yard art

away yet. I refuse.. this is NOT FALL... ...... at least not

until Friday...officially... and not for me until the weather

dips to 50's...... during the day...

In the best Herman Munster voice I can muster...

I DON'T WANTA .....I DON'T WANTA.... have

fall yet...
