Will you be my Friend??

That is the question on Facebook.

Well, it says to “confirm”… or one of

your friends will send someone else’s

Facebook address and tell you, you

should befriend them…

So when should you? And when should you

Ignore? And what are the consequences of an

Ignore? I guess I will find out, as I did hit the

Ignore button…

It wasn’t that this person was not a nice person.

It is just this person has not been in my life for

over 30 years. And only then as an ex of a friend

of mine. So why would I want this person to be

looking at a part of my personal life. Well, as much

as I want my friends to see anyway

I’ll let you know how it goes...

The Now Generation can be us too

The Obama projects and what were the concerns a year before Obama and years earlier than that… not necessarily in this order.

1. Economy
2. jobs where leaving America
3. health care
4. immigration

All of these were not solved in the past President terms on either side. And 3 of these have been a problem for at least 50 years.

Obama promised a change. He was tired of talk about these problems and no action. So he jumped in and started to change these areas. And we believed him. I think he really did believe it too. As with all Presidents, they all believe they are going to make a difference, no matter what side of the row they are on.

And here is America, screaming at him because he isn’t doing it in their idea of order. Plus he was handed the economy as he walked across the threshold, in its worse condition since 1929. People screamed, because as he tried his best with his crew to turn the economy around, no one liked how he did it … yelling Chicago Gang tactics. Yet no one had better ideas. And the TARP came in under the Republican flag.

After that he ran with the health care plan. Different plans have come to Congress for over 100 years. And they were talked to death quite litterly.
Obama was tired of talk, he wanted action. And as much as the Republicans tried to block it, they themselves have not brought forward a plan of their own. That was no action on one for 12 years!! Even when Obama and Clinton said they were going to make it one of their top priorities as they started to campaign.
Reminding me of the old adage…”talk is cheap… it takes real money to buy good whiskey”…

Then we have one that would have helped with both of those… Jobs. Stop jobs from going overseas. Hold the overseas companies (be it ours or theirs) accountable for safety and standards that we hold the companies within our borders. Stop huge and outrageous bonuses. They are already paid more than any other person in the company, why do they need bonuses to that extent? If any one was to get a merit raise, it should be the workers who make the product. After all they are making them well, and in a timely manner so the customer can purchase those products.

With that and making $20 the top wage, maybe the products can be made and the prices cheap enough that they can complete with overseas products. And keeping the products made in American would give jobs… Jobs would have insurance programs.

Immigration could start with all illegals getting no benefits. No health care, no help with housing, and no help with food stamps. I know there are people who are screaming about that as well. But if the illegals don’t like it…don’t come. Don’t crawl under or over our borders. You want to come in to the USA? Then ask one of your relatives to find you a job, and housing… before you come over.
Just like the rest of immigrants did in the past. Just because we share a border doesn’t give you a free ride. Those of you who are legal, you have to understand, that these illegals make it hard for you too. You are being condemned because of the illegals. Employers, just because these people come over illegal, doesn’t give you the right to treat them as animals. You need to have proper housing for these workers and make sure they are here legally.

So no green card? No job, no housing, no health care, no food stamps. No, this is not inhumane, it is the rule… if you don’t like it, don’t come. And because you have been able to hide for 10-20 years doesn’t give you a free pass either. If your employer wants you bad enough, then he/she will help you get in a green card.
And while you are at it…go to night school and learn English. I would have to learn your language if I went to your country. My Swedish and German forefathers had to learn when they came over. You should not be any different.

Everyone has their own thoughts of which of the 4 should have been done NOW. Be done first. Economy, of course, had to be first. No matter how you look at it… that was an emergency problem. (which by the way how do you think McCain would have handled it? I didn’t see any ideas during campaign time or didn’t he know how bad it was either) But the next one should have been jobs. Health care? Well, a band-aid could have help until jobs and immigrations were taken care of. The band-aid would have been to stop insurance refusal for previous conditions policies and open up state borders for all insurance companies. (our state only has the Blue Cross tri-names)

So while we have the “I want it now” generations, all could not have been done NOW.

I wonder how Obama Administration will be looking, say 20 or 30 years from now. Remember, Truman, Roosevelt and even Kennedy was not looked at kindly during their times… and now they are very highly thought of. Even Teddy Roosevelt was giving a bad time by his own party. I hope President Obama gets to hear about what a job he did 20 years from now.

In the meantime, if the two parties don’t start thinking about the country and not
their own parties only… this country will continue to be a mess. And it isn’t just the President, it is the Congress… It is Congress who can override a veto, the President doesn’t have such power.

I WANT IT and I want it NOW!!!

We have talked about how the kids of today,
are in the entitlement generation. But what
about the rest of us.

Everything has to be now. Be it Redbox
Movies… go to the store and like a candy
bar, you put the credit card in and out
pops a movie. That isn't fast enough for you?
Then stay home, get online and hit PLAY NOW for a movie.
And it is sent to you right now, on your
computer. And if you are smart enough
to know how to connect your computer
to your television..(no, I am not that smart)
you can watch it on the television NOW...

What happen to the element of anticipation?
Something to look forward to?

And if you don't think you are in that group,
then I ask you, as you stand in front of the
microwave oven.... do you get antsy because
it isn't done yet?

How many are driving down the road, and
some one is doing 5 mph less than the limit
or doing just the limit. And the one behind starts
to get frustrated, as they want to go faster, to
get to their destination? What happen to
enjoying the ride?

Look at how many people wait until the last
minute for their Christmas shopping, and go
on line two days before, order everything, put
in the addresses of the people who gets the
gift, put rush shipping and hit send or submit?
No going to the store and look around to see
what is there, check out the material, and
buy it...bring it home, wrap it, and send it.

Ok, well, maybe that wasn't such a great
example.... but really why do we have to
have it NOW? Why can't we wait anymore?

You can't go home....

Over the weekend, Marianne Love put in her blog about a new song she likes called…
The House That Built Me
and a line in it was....."If I could just come in I swear I’ll leaveWon’t take nothing but a memoryFrom the house that built me"
Sung by Miranda Lambert.

It sure hit home to read those words...I use to live on Beacon Street in my
Hometown. And as an adult, when I visited there, and returned there for 4 years,
I would drive by the old house and wish.

I wish that I could go in the house, even with its remodel, and see how much of
it is like the house I grew up in. It was a basis New England Cape Cod house.

As you looked at the house there was a door in the middle with a window on
each side.

One bedroom down stairs to the right. Living room to the left, circling around
to the dining room and kitchen, entering the hall way going back round passing the bathroom
and passing the said bedroom, and back the front door.

With a back door off of the kitchen. Which had stairs to the basement. When you went in the
front door, you were facing stairs. Upstairs there was 2 bedrooms made from the original attic.

One on the left was my brother's with 2 small windows, one on each side of the chimney.
My bedroom was on the right, and I had a standard window. And that was my outlook on life...
The things I could see from there.

First was the old house with an 8-foot fence that surrounded the 5 or more acres. Woods we
loved to play in...We use to sneak in there, moving one of the posts. We would pretend
it was a jungle. There were two elderly ladies that we never saw, but we did see the groundskeeper.
Way too many times, as we ran and escaped thru the fence.

Then in my early teen years, it was all taken apart. A grocery store and parking lot, then a Cadillac
dealership next to that went in.

Winter would bring ice on the parking lot or snow. And of course the teens who did donuts, and skidding
across the parking lot.

With the driveway next to my side of the house, it also served as a lookout, when Mom and Dad came
home after going out for the night. So we would hop back in our beds, so they wouldn't know
we were playing just before.

The room itself was hotter than Hades in the summer even with the window open. And it had
built in dresser in the wall. Two small ones side by side and two long ones. And if I removed the bottom
one, I could sneak into the attic behind. And pull the draw back in, behind me. Great escape from Mom,
when she was really ticked off at me. And also I could crawl down along my brother's room and make little
noises and scaring the beejeeves out of him. He didn't have built in drawers like I did.

Yes, just like the song says..
"If I could just come in, I swear I’ll leave,
Won’t take nothing but a memoryFrom the house that built me"

Do you have a house you wish you could go back see? And see what you can see out your old window?

Religion in the United States of America

As any of you who have read my blog in the
past, know I am from Rhode Island. Actually
Rhode Island and Providence Plantations.

Roger Williams founded R.I.,
himself a very religious man, a Christian.
He, being a friend of the Narragansett tribe,
acquired land and founded R.I. and insisted on
religion tolerance. Encouraging
Quakers, and the Jews. He, himself, did
not try to convert the Indian tribes. He believed
church is spiritual only and must remain apart
from the world. He was not a perfect man by
any means…but he did give us Rhode Islanders
the pride of religious tolerance.

Hence, the oldest Synagogue,
Touro Synagogue built in 1759 in downtown Newport.
And the Quaker Meeting House of Newport, R.I. built in 1699.
St. Mary's, Rhode Island's oldest Roman Catholic parish
was founded in 1828.
(which is where John Kennedy married Jackie)

So when I hear Palin and Beck and such say that
United States of America is a Christian only country,
I adamantly disagree…

HAPPY 40TH ....JC
my baby, she will love that...

Car Alarms

The King drives me nuts…with our car alarm.
Also car alarms that go off for not reason that
I can see, it also nerve wracking…

Now, I understand, man invented that gadget.
Because they don’t like to ask directions,
so they surely don’t want to ask where they parked
their car, when they get to be middle age.
With the car beeping and lights flashing, they will be able
to find their car in a full parking lot..

How do I know this? Because I saw a 50ish man
walking up and down the rows of cars in the Wal-Mart,
with his keys in his one hand and groceries in his arms.
Aiming his keys at different rows, looking for a beeping,
light flashing car. True story.

Did Someone Let the Tourist Loose?

We have gone to town about 3 times in the
past 3 days… and I got to ask, did someone
let the tourist loose… if not where did all
these people come from?

Now only that, but I think all the Sunday drivers
are out as well…
We followed one guy whose head was like a swivel.
He was looking everywhere but in front of him.
And in order to do this well, I guess, he had to be
a slow driver as well. We were doing 30 in a 45 mph
zone.

Then there was the guy who has watched too much
NASCAR races, as when we were getting to the slower
part, he started to swerve back and forth across the
yellow lines. Enough where we were debating on his
sobriety.

I thought we had two more months of peace and quiet,
as we drove to town… before the tourist come and welocals find back road to get around them..

Twisting the truth

You put an 8-ounce glass on the table.
You put 4 ounces of water in that glass.
Exactly 4 ounces…no more, no less…

Just that glass of water will bring you more
arguments, when you ask for anyone and
everyone, to describe that glass of water.

FACT…..
It is a 8 ounce glass
FACT….
It has 4 ounces of water poured into it.
THIS IS ALL FACT… measured FACT.

Yet, people will argue until the cows come home,
that the glass is either half full or half empty.
Even to the point of heated arguments.
Why? When in fact both can be said, as it is a
FACT that it is half empty AND half full.

The same can be said about many things about our
Government. People will argue heatedly that things
are so bad, everything is bad. And because the other one
did not see their way. That, that person did not have
the same views and because of that, they are wrong.
and really this can be said of either side.

And if one is to say that some of what the other is saying,
is somewhat true, but there is some good in the problem,
the negative person will be quite adamant about how
wrong they are…

Thru this kind of thinking, we get radicals who do harm.
And this date today….this date… has shown to do just
that.
McVieght blew up the court house in Ok.

Media Negativity

There is so much negativity of late…
seem like more than usual.

It isn’t that I am promoting the feel good news,
but when you hear negative remarks over and over.
After a while, it beats you down to that level yourself.
Look at a work place. If you hear it, next thing you
are talking negative.

So if we hear it …. Read it… watch it…
Doesn’t the audience, readers, get into a funk too?

And then when you read and see on television,
that some young students wrote answers to a
question given them….”what would you want to
be remembered for?” And their answer was…
To be remembered for being a mass murder..
To be remembered for killing a president…
To be remembered for being the leader of the KKK
And other such things….

And of course, the media did not play up the positive
answers there, as I can’t believe all the students would
have answered such sad answers. It isn’t just the shock
value of the answers as the students may have been
trying for… it is the fact that they had those thoughts in
their minds at all to come up with for the questions.
Sure brought down my day hearing about it…

Putting on the Ritz

Caution…warning… .

Not for men or children,,

Have you seen the new girdles?
I told myself I was never going there again
I had quit at least 30 years ago…

Yet one appealed to me… the new body suit.
Girdle is a girdle…but now they call them body suits.

Putting one on, is a gymnastic ordeal… and even
puts one to shame, I am not a skinny, agile person
anymore, that is obvious other wise I would not even
be trying this. The torture of one's body.

You know, how it is ladies… You hold up this new
product and laugh as you are wondering how you
are going to get this over your leg, never mind your
body.

Being an old nurse’s aide and having experience of
putting on Ted-hose… you know to bunch it up and
stretch as wide as you can… then start at the bottom
and head up… slowly, pulling, pushing… well it isn’t
a pretty picture.

As I got it almost in position 20 minutes later and a
lot of cussing, I noticed something different about
this suit. It must have been designed by a woman.
Had to be… after all, there is a hole in the crotch.
Now any woman who has put on a tight girdle or
put a child in a snow suit knows… nothing is worse
than being in an outfit and then have to go to the
bathroom.

So there I was in my body suit. Put on my clothes,
and this wasn’t bad. It doesn’t make me thin, but
it keeps me from looking like a bag of marbles.

Then a horrible thing happen…. An hour later,
I was getting ready to go to the store, and of course
before I can go, I have to make a pit stop. THEN IT
DAWN ON ME… there was something wrong with
my plan…. See as I was so carefully putting on my
Body suit? And happy about the new crotch area?
I forgot that I had put my underpants UNDER my
Body suit!!!! So off goes my shirt (to get the straps
down) down goes everything. Best laid plans of mice and women…

STEP. AWAY. FROM. THE. COMPUTER!!!!!

I joined Face book a year or so ago, to be able to see pictures my kids put
on there of their families… and this past 8 months has been more active
than I have been in it… And I have found out news about my children and
their families a lot quicker… and put a few things up from time to time..
I even played their game? Garden.
So I would check in, then scroll down the home site and see what
everyone was up to and sometimes interact with them… then go
water my flowers, and feed the animals and water other gardens…

But this past weekend has been an addiction…. See you can become a
fan of different Face book pages for different causes, business and such.
So what became my addictions????
“You know you are from Aquidneck Island when”
I am from the island called Aquidneck in Rhode Island. It consist of
3 towns. Portsmouth, Middletown and Newport. I was raised in
Middletown. Named for the obvious reasons.

Anyway, the page is only a couple days old and they already have over
1500 fans and people keep coming back and putting more and more
back in. So you have to keep going to the end to see who wrote after
you did. And it is getting longer and longer…. You can comment and
then go down to see who commented nears yours, come back up and
there is a whole new page of comments.

I. HAVE. SPENT. WAY. TOO. MUCH. TIME. THERE……
but I did see some people from the past.
I saw a daughter of a horsewoman who use to compete against my
mother in horse shows. They were rivals for many years…
in many horse shows….
There are two people I know, because I went to school with her since
6th grade and her niece. But we email and Face book contact each other.

What is so interesting is the places.
So many places we know. So many place that they know, that took the place of
what we knew… and trying to remember all the place we can. Especially those of
us who moved away many years ago… And people we knew as children. Town
characters, teachers and such.

So would you, if you see a place you can comment on,
where you grew up? Would it be addictive to go back
and remember different places, people from your childhood

Being a fan of.....

I don’t really understand the thing of being a fan.
Yes, I have been a fan of different singer and such.
But how does one become a hero to people because of
this… Hero’s should be considered some one like our troops.
The police officer who jumps in to help people and forgets
himself… or the fireman… who saves a child.. or the
4 teens who saw a fire in a house and ran in and pulled out
the children, and guided the mother out. The boys who
jumped off a school bus and ran to help people in a
car accident. Or a young man who told his mother to
pull off the road and help teens get clear of a car they
just crashed with… the nurse and doctors who stays in a tent in Haiti
or other such places, with doctors and help the wounded.
The Dr. and Nurses on the war front… the helicopter
pilot who swoops down in gunfire to grab other people who are in harms way,
Now those are heroes….
To have your child worship or have for heroes, men who run a field with a ball,
Or hit a ball across glorified lawn… I am sorry, but you are doing it wrong.

To be a fan of someone’s work, be it an athletic movie star, singer,
and such…. Is one thing.. So what does that person owe you as a fan?
He or she owes you a good performance. End of story….
What their personal life is like, is none of the fan’s business.
Which talking about business, it is the media that makes a business
out of pasting rumors and stories. So because this person promotes for
a fee, a product you want to buy it? Not because it is a product you think
is of good quality, but because this star told you? I am shaking my head.

I was a fan of Johnny Cash since he was on the Jimmy Dorsey show in the
1950’s…. and when people would talk about his down fall, I thought it was
sad. Sad that such a talent would damage his body with drugs. And thought it was
great that June help him on to the right road… but I did not buy the papers
that had the stories about him. And rarely listen to the talk about it.
Maybe because I never got great joy out of someone else’s problems.
Be it a neighbor or a star. Johnny only owed me a good performance. Which
he did, in my opinion.

So those of you who point out that Tiger Woods let you down because of you, your
children and grandchildren… I got to say, that is sad.

Now the Congress men and other elected officials is a different playground. Because
I want a Congress person to be honest, I want them to be having ethics. I expect them
to have such, to be able to make up the laws of the land for us to run this big country of
ours. So if I elect someone, I expect to have some one of good character and to be
honest. Not ones who have prosecuted people for breaking a law, which they are doing
behind close doors. Not one who make laws against certain types of people when it comes out they too, are one of those people.

So an elected official, yes, and rock star, athletic, dancers, artist of any kind….no..And please parents…get real heroes for your kids

days off

Our little girl is sick. This time really sick. Before she had injured herself
some how and hurt some muscles...but this time it is intestine virus... Been to
the vet and going back tomorrow... blood test...
Dogs and cats are like children... when they are sick, they don't know what or why.
And we feel helpless... thankfully our Vet is reassuring...

So I am taking a day or two off while we get thru this with her.

Child Abuse in the Church

Let me clarify right here and now…
I.CAN. NOT. STAND. THE. PEOPLE. WHO.
ABUSE.CHILDREN.
It makes me nausea instantly. I can NOT even
watch a show about it, be it real or fiction.

But some of the things I wonder about are the numbers
and the Catholic church. Are Priest like police officers?
When there is a rotten apple in the ranks, that all are condemned?

I would like to know the actual percentage of how many Priests
were actually known as child abusers. No spin numbers… actual
proven cases? I know, there will only be the tip of the iceberg
cases. But it would be interesting to know.

Then I would like the numbers of the other religions. Can you
honestly tell me that there were no Jewish children abused by
Rabbi’s… by Baptist ministers, by any Protestant minister?
by 7th Day Adventist? Can you honestly say that? As I can’t
believe that to be true. Why is it only the Catholics you hear about?
And why do the Catholic members have to pay for the sins of their Priest?
And we have heard of other professions of trust, teachers, Boy Scout
leaders. But you don’t hear about the thousands or millions they
have to pay..

For many years, children sex abuse was a secret. It was rarely exposed
to the courts or the media. I was 23 at least before I heard of the first
man arrested for such an offense. And that girl recanted after 10 years.
She was mad because her father wouldn’t let her date a young man.
It was 3 years later before I heard of the next… and that was the real
deal.

There were parents who guarded their children from these people…be it
their friend or worse yet, a family member. There were divorces. Yet
rarely anyone was arrested. I knew of many of incidents of it, but it was
hushed up, and only talked about with in the adulthood group. Leaving a
lot of children thinking they were at fault of this horrible hushed up sin.
Or when someone shot the husband.

Even women who are now in their 60’s, 70’s and even 80’s have a hard time
speaking of this offense on children. Or get angry if asked and refuse to answer
the question. And the law had a hard time with it as well.
Lot of men or even women (as there were women sex offenders as well)
were let go, because the courts or police didn’t know how to handle it.
So why do the people think that a Cardinal or Bishop knew how or what to do about it.
Change the Priest area was what they did. Thinking this person repented and
needed a new start.

Again, I find this repulsive, but I think when there are discussions and disgusting,
it should look at the whole picture, instead of only beating the one area.
This is not a new subject, this is not a subject of 30,40, 50 years ago.
70 years ago, the King’s grandmother threw a Priest down the stairs and broke his arm
when she found out her son was abused. They say the law of averages is, there is at least one in every family….none of us want to think about that, and hope and pray you are
one of the few that don’t…
But this goes back even further….
This goes back to the days of the Romans Eunuch and who know how much more?

An now I am 70...

Look at this face…
What do you see…
Do you see the winkles and
ages spots? Or do you see me?

What you don’t see, is the little girl
who rode horses and had a goat for a
pet, as well as cat called Skid Chain.

You don’t see the girl who worked
at schoolwork as well as played
baseball… but a loner at the dance
floor. Who would be thought of
as a nerd of today’s phrases.
Whose only memory from classmates,
Is a smile and a pony tail.

Or the mother of 8, herding her group,
thru grocery stores, and laudratmats.
Traveling thru the western states, following
husbands and children in tow. Or the many
camping trips with only sleeping bags placed
by the river bank, with a campfire in the rocks.

Or do you see the grandmother of 17, who
plays as well as give loves… be it the water
balloons, or squirters, or even digging in the
dirt. Running down the field with a grandson,
as he practices soccer? And giving out hugs
at all times…

Maybe you can see the bits of a nurses aide still
left after so many years, with the caring, and tears
of many that went before or the joys of rehab successfully
fulfilled.

Wife, Mother, Grandmother,Great grandmother, Aide.
Quietly and silently helping out when no one could see.
So many names this old face claims… so what do you
see?

I see that old person in the mirror, who covers over the
past dreams of great things, that never came to be. The
the free flowing dancer, the traveler, the teacher of life.
And still those people live inside this old body of today being 70,
with hopes of……… someday…
With my heart still flowing with the music and breeze…

The One thing we HAVE to do is die and pay taxes..

The recent passed Healthcare bill has many things in
it. Most of those told to us by the media are pluses.
Yet, besides the way it is going to be paid for, the
thing that comes thru the loudest is the different
Governors and Attorney Generals who have rushed to
be the first to have sued the Federal Government over
the mandatory requirement of health insurance.
Calling it unconstitutional.

Which made me think…

Taxes, income taxes, taxes on products.
Taxes on services. Gas taxes.
What about drivers license? House permits,
Building permits?
How about insurance on your vehicles?

Aren’t all these the law? Are we not required…
mandated to pay?

Some of these are state requirements, some of them
Federal required… but required, never the less…
Mandatory of all.

So are all these unconstitutional? Why have the
AG of each state not sued to have each of these stopped?

This seems to be more bandy rooster politics to me.
