Untangled Family roots

Finding your ancestors, has so
many rewards. The ones that really
pay off, is when it is told thru the family.
Because then you get to find out what
the person did for their families, towns and
etc. What line of work they did. Some times
if you are lucky to find an obits in the paper,
you can find out some of that information.

My daughter who has spent a great deal
of time with a good friend, has come up
with information on my mother's side. Which
I only had two and part of a third generation
information. With the two of them, they
found 8 generations. Information that could
mean something to my grandchildren and
great-grandchildren for scholarships later.

Also, she was doing a invitation for her
father's family picnic and thru the research, found
some pictures of great-great-grandparents. Internet
can be so great.

So check out Amy's new site. You might
be surprise how easy it may be to find out
some information about your family. And
telling your elderly parent or grandparents,
may jar some old memories for you to
record for your family.

Also, and I know I will probably get killed
for this one. But one of our bloggers is
going to have eye surgery in Sept. I know a
lot of you enjoy her site and the beautiful

Are the Sandpoint Gods Mad?

The latest word in the Sandpoint By-pass
is tunnel. Of course, this bypass has
the speed of a snail. Only 50 years in
the unmaking.

But now some beanie cap person thinks
they should be able to send a screw
underground and place tubing as they
go. This is not a driveway culver, guys..

In my best impression of Jack Sparrow,
as he explain ..."uh, Pirate!"...
Uh, Sand....Point!! What part of
Sand don't they get? Although
one of the old time Sandpoint was
telling me, a blow out your nose
coffee, story. Seems one of the newer
resident was explaining how the town
got its name of Sandpoint. He said that
the Indians would sell sand to the new
arrivals here... so this was a sand selling
point... hence Sandpoint. Oh, God help
us all.

Can you see it.. they start that giant screw
into the side of Sandpoint, get about 3 feet
down and the water will start gushing out..
Heck, we can have our very own Geyer.
Old Sandpoint... a continuous fountain.

One of the rumors is that a gentleman
was upset, that after he bought his
condo at Season of Sandpoint,
he found out they were going to be running
a bypass right by his door. So he came
up with this idea of a tunnel.

But it is probably like the Indian's
selling sand story, not much substance.

One guy said, heck the Idaho Transportation
can't build a decent road on top of the ground
how the heck are they going to build two
underground?

Well, this one should be a source of great
conversations for the next year. Wonder what
other idiot idea will be next?

Point of View, from the View of Each

There is much ado about the pending
possibility of adding a penny to the sales
tax, here in Idaho.

This was a discussion on another
blog. And the views were varied, as
human nature usually is.

One of the views was about how it
was a 20% added on. While 20% is
a big increase in most terms, it doesn't
seem like it, when it is a penny on the dollar
more.

I had mention that it was, for crying on
loud, just a penny. That a penny is easier
on one, than hundreds twice a year with
property tax. For those not from Idaho,
this is a discussion of taking off the
property tax and putting on the sales
tax to help with the school buildings.
As I understand it.

One of the commenter's was that, yes
it was only a penny, but if you buy a car
for $25,000 then it is $250 more on to the
price of the car.

This is where the view comes from each.
See I and quite a few others, can't afford
a $25,000 car.

9 years ago, the King and I decided we would
have to chose between a new vehicle or a house.
We chose a house, knowing we would never be
able to get a new car in the future, both payments
being about the same a month.

I have never ever had a new car, so you can't
miss what you never had. But we wanted to
have something stable. We had spent way too
much for rent over the years.

So from our view, a penny is not a bad thing.
From some one who can afford a new car,
it seems $250 is. I know this is probably a
reverse snobbish, but I figure if you can afford
a $25,000 car, you can afford the extra $250.

In Idaho, the far northern of the panhandle,
meaning Bonner and Boundary counties, I
think it is safe to say that 2/3's of the
employee's are the service type employees
meaning the lower than $20,000 a year income.
Actually I think 10 years ago it would be 90%
of the employees and now it is 88%. My
thoughts.

This being waitress, nurses aides, motel
clerks, store clerks, housekeepers, kitchen
help, gas station attendants, and etc.

So when some one tells me, that because we
all can't afford $25,000 cars, that we should have
gotten better jobs, it ticks me off. Where would
the 10% ...1/3 higher bracket bunch be, without
the fore mention employee's.

Also over the years, there are a lot of people who
could never afford a trade school and surely
couldn't afford college. There are a lot of women who
were thrown to the work force by men who wanted
to move on with their own lives, leaving family behind.

So some of us see a penny, easier to manage
at a penny at a time, and not so easy to add
$$$ to the mortgage payments. Or flat out paying
taxes twice a year. Especially when Idaho has
the sadistic character of sending taxes to be paid
at Christmas time. Oh, yea, forgot... got to keep
the state and religion separate.

Gas, Gas, my Kingdom for Gas

In today's news, it has about how
they are shutting down the Alaska
pipeline.

Seems it has some spots that
are corroding, and some leaking.
Which makes you wonder..how much
is some.

Now what is the fall out, besides
the rise in gas prices? Already sent
the price of crude up $2 a barrel. Which
trickles down to how much more to us?

Say nothing about the hoarding and the
stealing of gas.

The King once said if things got really
bad, (but he was talking taxes) that we
could sell the house and buy a trailer.
And a truck to pull it.

So today when he was fretting over
the price of gas going up, he again,
mention, selling the house and getting
the trailer... I told him ok, BUT....

Was he going to be pedaling that
bike to pull the trailer... because
where did he think he was going to
find the fuel for that truck???

turn on the AC.

After 2 weeks of 24 hours a day,

and seeing some of it on our

electric bill....

Well, I am just toughing it out.

I am not hot. What water on my

face? Odor? what odor??

It isn't stuffy in here. Open the

window... oh, it is open.

I am tough.. I will hold out..

Ok, ok.. I will turn it on for

you, my King of the house...

but not for me.

Because I am tough...

Whew, I thought he would

never tell me I had to have it on....

Why are we drawn to movies of true terror?

Tragedy movies .. why do people
go to movies or watch them on TV?
The more pain, terror, tragic they
are, the more people seem to go and
watch.

JFK, In Cold Blood, stories of murder,
and how and sometimes why? True
stories.

Now we have 9-11 coming out.
Some say it is too soon. Some
say it is important to see.
Some say it never should be.
Some say they should make
it, so we won't forget.

We don't forget.

Ask anyone who was alive when
Pearl Harbor was bombed.

Ask anyone where they were, when
John Kennedy was shot, when Martin Luther
King was shot, and when Robert Kennedy
was shot.

Or even when they found out that
the World Trade Center was blown up.

They can give you a moment to moment
accounting of where they were, who they
were with, and how they found out about it.



Are we the only ones who are this
sadistic? Do other countries make
movies showing blow by blow true
stories, true tragedies. True deaths
or torture?

Hot?

We have East Coast hook up on our
dish...so we can see programs earlier,
but it also means we get the weather.

Right now they are getting our weather
we have had for the past 3 weeks.
They had it up to 99 and 100!!! Land
sakes alive, they think they are dying.

And of course you have the global warming
thing going too. But I remember in 1963,
I was laying on the kitchen floor 8 months
pregnant, trying to cool off because it was
over 100... Yes, it was El Cajon, California.
But still, no one was talking about the earth
warming up. So I tend to take these things
with a grain of salt.

I am going to share another email funny with
you. It works just right for the weater.
Kind of reminds me of the winter one about
snow. So here you are for your laughing enjoyment.

Dear Diary:
May 30th: Just moved to Dallas... Now this is a
city that knows how to live!! Beautiful sunny days
and warm balmy evenings. What a place!
Watched the sunset from a park lying on a blanket.
It was beautiful. I've finally found my home.
I love it here.

June 14th: Really heating up. Got to 100 today.
Not a problem. Live in an air-conditioned home, drive an
air-conditioned car. What a pleasure to see the
sun everyday like this. I'm turning into a sun worshipper.

June 30th: Had the backyard landscaped with western
plants today. Lots of cactus and rocks. What a
breeze to maintain. No more mowing lawn for me.
Another scorcher today, but I love it here.

July 10th: The temperature hasn't been below 100
all week. How do people get used to this kind of heat?
At least it's kind of windy though. But getting used
to the heat and humidity is taking longer that I expected.

July 15th: Fell asleep by the pool. (Got 3rd degree burns
over 60% of my body.) Missed 3 days of work.
What a dumb thing to do. I learned my lesson though.
Got to respect the ol' sun in a climate like this.

July 20th: I missed Morgan (our cat) sneaking into the
car when I left this morning. By the time I got to the
hot car for lunch, Morgan had died and swollen up to
the size of a shopping bag and stank up the $2,000
leather upholstery. I told the kids that she ran away.
The car now smells like Kibbles and shits. I learned
my lesson though. No more pets in this heat.

July 25th: The wind sucks. It feels like a giant freaking
blow dryer!! And it's hot as hell. The home
air-conditioner is on the fritz and the AC repairman
charged $200 just to drive by and tell me he needed
to order parts.

July 30th: Been sleeping outside by the pool for
3 nights now. $1,500 in damn house payments and
we can't even go inside. Why did I ever come here?

August 4th: It's 105 degrees. Finally got the
air-conditioner fixed today. It cost $500 and gets
the temperature down to 85, but this freaking
humidity makes the house feel like it's about 95.
Stupid repairman peed in my pool. I hate this stupid city.

August 8th: If another wise ass cracks,
"Hot enough for you today?", I'm going to
strangle him. Damn heat.
By the time I get to work the radiator is
boiling over, my clothes are soaking wet,
and I smell like baked cat!!

August 9th: Tried to run some errands after
work. Wore shorts and sat on the black leather
seats in the ol'car. I thought my ass was on fire.
I lost two layers of flesh and all the hair on the
back of my legs and butt. Now my car smells like
burnt hair, fried butt, and baked cat.

August 10th: The weather report might as well
be a damn recording. Hot and sunny. Hot and sunny.
Hot andsunny. It's been too hot to do anything
for 2 damn months and the weatherman says it
might really warmup next week. Doesn't it ever
rain in this damn desert?? Water rationing will
be next,so might as well watch $1700 worth of
cactus just dry up and blow into the damn pool.
Even the cactus can't live in this damn heat.

August 15th: Welcome to HELL!!! Temperature
got to 105 today. Forgot to crack the window and blew the
damn windshield out of the car. The installer came
to fix it and said, "Hot enough for you today?"
My wife had to spend the $1500 house payment
to bail me out of jail.

What kind of a sick demented idiot
would want to live here??
