W.A.S.P. Celebration at Bird Museum

We got up early and headed out to the Bird Museum to see the dedication to the WOMEN OF COURAGE... the W.A.S.P. ... Women Airforce Services Pilots. It was a beautiful day for it.
For those of you, who have never been there... you really should make a point to go..it is a
great place to take your guest, your children, and just for yourself... IT IS FREE.... and they do
have a nice little cafe there, with fair prices, and good food...

The field is filling up...

One of the first planes is coming in for a landing...

This field filled up fast.... we barely could get out when we got back to the car, the white one.

More coming in....

Another plane coming in for a landing.... (it started at 9 and we got there at 9:01am)

This plane (above the grey vehicles) came in a little too fast, and a little too soon, it barely made it on the runway...BUT

it bounced, and then the front landing snapped...
Not a good day for this pilot, hope he wasn't planning on flying home tonight.

They were able to move it with the 4 wheeler.... to move it off the field..

The airplanes circled while they cleared the runway...
beautiful background.....
QUEST AIRCRAFT...

Finally the planes started to land again..

One after another

All of them landing safely...

The first plane being secured so the visitors could view it... up close

Pledge Allegiance Sign with a Uncle Sam windmill

Inside the museum... it was so crowded, this was the closest I got to inside...

Wall paper in the women's bathroom.

Australian Crystal mirror in the women's bathroom.

The King in the middle of the crowd..

Before the ceremony

Bagpippers as the beginning...

Airplane flying over during the ceremony

The unveiling of the monument

Bugle player.... playing taps... (she really didn't play, it is recorded)

Bagpippers playing... with their dancers...

And here is Dawn (I didn't catch her last name) getting ready to tell us of how hard it was to beccome a pilot for the Air Force. But how much fun was for them after they got to join. How many (over 3,000) signed up, little over 1,000 making it.... only to have the government end their services with a 2 weeks notice... in 1944, before the war was over.

Marianne Love of Slight Detour with her mother Virginia, visiting with friends.

Some of the stones that are in the landscape at the W.A.S.P. Park as Pam Bird likes it to be called.

benchs donated by varies groups...

The monument

They came by car, trucks and motorcycles...

Those who worked on the Park...

Some of the people were getting photos taken..

As we were leaving, there were more coming in...

The Fairness of it all....

I watch in disbelief on television, as Lindsay Loman spouts off how
she is being unfairly treated. That it is against her Constitution rights.
Stating she is being treated to unusual cruelty and undue punishment.
She felt she was blind sided by going to court and given a jail term…

Oh, please… give me a flaming break…

The average 19 year old and older, is treated to a stand in front of a judge,
say guilty and go immediately to jail. No passing GO, straight to jail and within
an hour is body searched. ALL BODILY PORTHOLES BODY SEARCHED.

And Ms. Loman has until the end of the month to
get her affairs in order… What about the average kid?
Where is his or her 2 weeks to get their life in order before going in?

And if you think she is screaming now, what until she gets her body search.
Where is the fairness of all of this?

How can you not believe?

Do you remember when your kids were growing up, and you found
yourself frustrated because you would tell them something.. and they
would doubt you, or flat out not believe it… YET…their friend could
say the same thing and it was gospel? Or the friend would tell them
something, and you would tell them it wasn’t so.. and they believed the
friend? And you would have to go thru the trouble of proving it so, and
still the child had doubts? How frustrating is that?

Now as an adult, you can be talking to a friend and you disagree with
something political, and you can’t believe what they are telling you because
you know it is so very wrong. And when you suggest that it isn’t quite true,
trying to soften it… and they get angry. And then when you go thru the trouble
of finding the truth for them… and they still won’t believe you. They rather
believe a lie, or a spin that has no truth to it… How frustrating is that.

Only difference is… you can walk away from your friend in amazement that they rather believe their spin/lie…. But with your children you want to make sure they do have the
truth… Only mix is, when the child becomes an adult and won’t believe what you
say. But I think that might hurt more, because they rather believe you are misinformed,
(they don’t dare say their parent lied) than believe the truth in front of them.

Yes, frustrating…

Women in sports

Soccer…. For men only in competition?

I see girls on the local fields and in the newspapers..
I know that girls have gone on with scholarships to college..
But to what point do women get dropped from the national scene?

Now granted I did not see all the World Cup games… but what
I did see, I didn’t see…… women on the teams. Long hair men, but
Not women? Is there a reason for that?

What, women aren’t tough enough? Have you ever seen women
play anything? Have you seen the competitiveness of them?
No matter what it is… if women are playing, competing, they
have the go for blood, attitude. Be it soccer, tennis, wrestling,
baseball, basket ball… you name it..
If the woman herself is competitive, look out. Get a team together,
and you will really see a game worthy of any men team.

Horse shows bring back memories....

My childhood summers were mostly spent at horse shows. My mother showed
American Saddle Breds for years, then switched to Jumpers/Hunters and then ending their
show life and their own with Hackney ponies....

So when I got an offer to escort a very special person to the horse show at the fair
grounds, it was something I looked forward to...

The difference between the shows of years ago with Mom, was they were all
English saddle, where today it was Western Pleasure all the way...

The Announcer is ready..... Marianne Love ( of Slight Detour)

There are horses, lots of horses......and riders with great hopes...

Ms Tibbs on Dusty shows off their stuff.
And the winner is....... Ms. Tibbs and Dusty....
And Mom Tibbs gets to hold the ribbon

And there is the other Ms. Tibbs on Lily.... and when Lily is good, she is very good...
And when Miss Lily is naughty, she is very naughty....

And here are two very well known Bonner County horsewomen, watching the younger generation...
With remarks of times gone by.... Mardette Lewis and Virginia Tibbs.... the stories they spin
of long ago.

And at the end... this lucky young lady won the Harold Tibbs Toby1 belt buckle... donated
by the Tibbs family in memory of their husand/dad.... ..

And now you need to go over to http://www.slightdetour.blogspot.com/ and get the rest of the story... with all the facts... As if you haven't gathered... The Tibbs are Marianne's Mom and sisters.

Comfort over rules...

When we were young, we would dress to the nine’s.
(I wonder where that remark started from)

We, women, wore heels, and girdles. What was the
saying, it hurts to be beautiful. With hairdo’s that
took forever to do, and curlers that hurt, perms that stank.
Oh, yes, we surely put ourselves thru it all to try to look beautiful.

Now that I am older… comfort over rules everything.
If it don’t itch, cuts off circulation, or show too much, then
you are good to go… no more high fashions, it is comfort all the way

DEBBIE AUSTIN, I hate you !!!

I was at a yard sale a while back and there was this Yoga DVD....
so I decided to take a chance on it... as it was only 50 cents...
I had not done Yoga for about 40 years or more... so figured it
might be good for balance and etc...

You know when the DVD comes on and all those who are showing you
how is going to be done are in their 30's, that this isn't going to be good...

So I gave it my best shot... and I have lost 3 pounds so far... in two weeks...
but I hate this tape...

I try my best to do it like they said..but I don't bend like that. And it is faster
than the one I did years ago. The one from years ago was like slow motion...
this one goes along at a fair clip. And it kind of reminds me to being at church
as a kid... You know stand up and sing, down your knees to pray and back up
to listen only to stand to sing again and back down again... for 30 minutes...
except we weren't praying... well, maybe I was,....praying I could still get up
off the floor...
Don't they have yogi for 70 year olds?
