Living within the Pendulum

Living within the Pendulum

In the 1960’s I was accused of looking at the world thru rose color glasses.  Like that was not a good thing..  I happen to think it is.

But it keeps me chasing the middle of the swing of the pendulum.

Of the past couple of years we have gone to the far left to the far right and now heading back to the far left again.

We have one side with the fear factor, the doom of everything.. any idea, comes with a way of doom.. there  is no good deeds, only those who are trying to stomp us all, take away everything… ruin our lives as we know it..  The fear factors… No matter what seems like it could be a good idea for all.. is turn into fear of doom. That we will have to lose everything we have to support others, and they will take everything away from us.

On the other side, we have the great give away.  Free everything. Be it a place, education, health, food, everyone is entitle to everything. But no plan on how to pay for all of this.. except to tax the very rich.  Which I agree the very rich do have loop holes that the common man will never see. And have been given government breaks and helps that no little mom and pop place will ever see.

But they see it like every child gets a gift.  at all children birthday parties…  that all the students get a c so not to hurt anyone’s feelings..  to not reward those who tried harder, and encourage the ones who didn’t try .. as they know they are getting the grade as well.  No accountability

But some where there has to be a middle.   Yes, make the taxes fairer for all..  I said about 30 years ago, I thought we should have a 7% tax for EVERYONE.. with no exemptions.. Because of this.. there would be no reason for income tax, as you would not be getting any exemptions. And no returns.  So just every wage, every product sold and etc..  there would be a 7% sent to the US government. I am betting we could have great roads, and etc.  There would be no fraud of income taxes and etc. As everyone .. would be paying. Even the poor.  They, of course would pay less, as they earn less. I am sure the rich would say well, I am punishing those who earn high wages.  Not really.. because they too would lose all the loop holes, and maybe instead of millions of bonus a year.. they could turn the prices into the floor employees..  or make the product cheaper so all can afford.   After all if the company doesn’t have to pay out bonus and etc.  it could make the product affordable.

Why bonuses? After all they are already being paid high wages for their part of the business. Why do they need a bonus? Maybe if the whole company worked hard to make the best product and was price reasonable.. they would sell far more than they do now.. And at the end of the year.. ALL EMPLOYEES… the CEO, the janitor would get an equal bonus, as they all pulled together the product to the top notch. It wouldn’t be millions. .but maybe a thousand? Or even a hundred. Divide by ALL.  Putting people into paying more taxes… because they earn more.

Some where in the middle where one is responsible for himself and  his family..  To be able to get an education in a line that one can earn a living.  With out student loans.  If we have free kindergarten to high school, why not take that 2 more years for a trade. Where as the one getting that education can get a better job and be able to pay more taxes than the job they have now.

Kind of in the line, instead of feeding the person, show them how to grow their own..  instead of giving them fish to eat.. to show them how to fish type of a mode.

The pendulum needs to slow down……we are using fear to scare others for something no one should be scared of.  We use blacks, gays, Asian, and all the other scare tactics…  I got to ask you… those of you who are scared of those, so therefore hate them..  Has one black person ask you to be black?  Has one gay person ask you to be gay?  Why does it matter to you… No matter what color, gender and etc.. you are..  we all want one thing… to have a normal life, of having a safe home to live in, to have enough food. And a job to earn money to pay for these things.  That is the goal of each person.  So why can’t you mind your own business and stop judging people.  You do not like to be judged.. and maybe if you got to learn about those people, you would find you do not have a fear of them taking over your life. And find out you don’t really hate them.

Then there is the alien thing… For whom that have been here 10 .. 20 or even more years,  give them green cards.. and have them all put in for citizenship.  If after 2 years they have put in the effort to be come citizens.. then they can become one..  by the way have you ever taken the citizen test?  I know you are already one, but have you seen or taken the test?  I am not so sure I could pass to be honest with you..  Those of us who were born here, we get a easy slide in..  You have no idea how hard that test is..  And those with the “rewarding those who could keep away from the law” attitude, well, at this point of the game.. we got to get over that.

But getting these people green cards.. we get tax paying people.. and of course when they become citizen they will be paying taxes and voting.

We all dance to a different drummer than others.  Just because we are different does not make us any more right or wrong than the next guy.  we are just different… Thank God for that..  how boring if we were all the same.  All of us marching to the same drummer like little soldiers… minds all the same..  With difference we bring more to the plate..  if we can just do tolerance of differences.

What makes this country great is the fact we have individuality…

Now that,  ladies and gents.. is what makes AMERICA GREAT…

So let others be … it isn’t your rodeo, those are not your horses to ride..

TRY A LITTLE KINDNESS……..

Having fun in your 80’s….

Having fun in your 80’s….

We get mail from all kinds of places, business and etc.. And when they provide a return stamped envelope…  well, my sense of humor seems to kick in.

Like I got one from the Washington Examiner, telling me they have my name with professional courtesy offer…  Professional Courtesy ??  what kind of professional ???  AND they had a return envelope and with stamp on it..

So I wrote back.. that I was going to save them money…  I told them I was just a week away from my 81st birthday and therefore a retired nurses aide..  And for the life of me, I could not figure out what professional I was, that would be one  to get a professional courtesy to their magazine or newsletter.   As I never worked with a rich nurses aide…  so maybe they should remove my name off of their list and save them some money….

I always try to use humor in hopes that somewhere there is a person who opens the mail and gets a laugh… One letter or note at a time.

One as good as the other.. nope

One as good as the other.. nope

Well, it was day 3 .. and I was doing great!!!

Then I went to another one of my senior social hour.

(a name give to Dr. appt, by my Aunt Harriet and it is true)

Had not been to the eye dr. for about 4 years… so figure I

better check in..  Well, that was worse than the vaccine.

Talk about the blind leading the blind…  by night time I was

beginning to see things in the same light as before.

But the day was a blur, literally… and to make it worse was, we got snow.  Which was like a bright light..  So kept away from lights.

Couldn’t read…of course no computer either..   So it was the fun stuff…  wash… mop the floor.  And etc….

So I am glad to see today come..  everything is clearer. No problems from the vaccine..  eye check up went well as well..  just the after effects. Lol

And today is the King’s social hour.. his dr.

HEY HEY… I SURVIVED….

HEY HEY… I SURVIVED….

I got my 2nd vaccine shot on Saturday…  and it went smoothly.

The group was amazingly organized..  check in… sit for minute.. go sit in another chair… 3 minutes later a nurse comes by and verifies who I am…  and then the shot..  Hardly knew she did it.. and these shots are NOT with needles that like that on tv …  those look like they are 3 inches or more long. The one they used the first time and the last time was around ¼ inch long…

Then there was the wait.. sit in a chair and wait 15 minutes. Giving you a card that has the time on it… that is to make sure you don’t have any reaction from it..  Then you are free to leave..

So easy peasy for me..  BUT  maybe I better not get to gleeful, until tonight, after all this is the 3rd day and some had reaction on the 3rd day.  But for those who are concerned..  it really is easy.. and worth the shot… COVID is nothing to mess around with.  And this is from a gal who refuses to get a flu shot each year.

THE TAR PIT....

The Tar pit

When I was a kid, there was a huge lot behind our house.  It was owned by a fishing company. Ernest Coggeshall..  He spread fishing nets across the rectangle of a lot about 20 acres here  or there.  My mother use to sew the new ones in our house.. I think I already mention that before.. And she sew and repaired the old ones out in that field each summer.. Every spring they would fire up the old TAR PIT…

THE TAR PIT…It was about 12 foot square… and about 6 feet deep, under it was a hole where they started a fire with wood, to heat the pit/tar…  use the scare us kids.. as we heard all kinds of stories about how it was like quick sand.. TO STAY AWAY FROM …..THE PIT… I once snuck up to look in.. and it was tar alright.  It was dry, and cracked… and scary..

THE TAR PIT was for tarring fishing nets.  Like I said, my mother sewed the nets together in our living room It was huge, and white and clean… By April she had them all done.. sewing the wings on to the box (the trap) and the funnel to funnel the fish in to the box.

Then in April they fired up THE PIT… and dropped the net into the hot tar..  With a crane… they poked it with sticks to make sure it sank down in to the tar.. pushing and pulling to make sure the whole net was full of tar..  and then they pulled up the net and put it on the truck.. The truck would go up and down the field, as they pulled it off and spread it across the grass… It was left there for a month to dry… Also they would do an old net that the tar was wearing off… it also was spread across the field.. Then taken down to the dock to be put on the NOMAD… the fishing boat. And out to the ocean to be placed in the sea with corks bobbing up and down and holding the side up, the wings.. for the fish to follow into the funnel part. Then the NOMAD, would go out in the early morning..  with skiffs they would be placed by the box/trap.. and they would raise up the sides of the box.. until they could see the fish flopping…  The huge spoon like net would scoop them up and put them in to the holding hole in the mid ship.  There would be ice thrown in there.. Dumping load after load of the fish.  Then head back to Newport, to the dock and unload into barrels to go to Providence..

But back at THE PIT…. It was the source of scary stories for many years…  Of cats that walked the border, and fell in….never to be send again…  Also of horrors of horrors … some boys throwing cats and junk in there. Much to the disgust of the Coggeshalls as it would get caught up in the nets. I don’t ever recall them skimming thru the hot tar to remove things.

I heard there is a whole housing project in those fields now.. Don’t know what they ever did about THE TAR PIT… Don’t know if they emptied it and destroyed it or what.. Don’t know anyone from the old neighborhood that to be able to ask.

UP AND DOWNS OF LIFE....

Last week was an up and down of our family....  like a lot of families you lost someone and you gain some one..  With us.. it was gain some ONES.. two...  As you saw on my Friday post, we got two new ones..

It was March 9th when we got word that my cousin Sue passed away..  We knew it was coming, but never the less, it still hurt.  She fought such a grand fight. She would go hiking... and her friends would tell her to slow down, as she was outpacing them.   Even in January, she was still hiking.. Her last hike was 3 miles.  Sue always has been very competitive... She really could out do her brothers and sister in her delight of competition.  Sue was always a sweet gal, loved by lots of people... friends and family. Compassionate, always concern about others.  She and Jere loved life.. boating and what ever else they did together.     She will be missed by the mass of friends they have.

This will be the way, I will always remember Sue...  with a bigger than life grin...

We barely were adjusting to the lost of Sue, when we got word that two of our grand daughters had headed to the hospital that evening...   The miracle of cell phones, keep us all abreast of the going on.. Even the girls themselves kept in touch with each other. One up by Olympia, and the other down in Longview Washington.  At midnight, I gave up and went to bed... upon waking the next morning I ran to my computer and found out one of the little girls made it to the world...  sliding in at 1.06AM...  and saw that at 4AM.. the other little one decided she just might come too, now that she knew her birthday twin made it into the world...  and at 7:57AM... she slide out (I am sure Mom didn't think it was that easy) and joined her second cousin in the new world..  To the wonderment of grandparents.. who were beaming..   In the day of Covid... where grandparents can't enter the hospital and wait in the waiting room.... they had to stay home and listen for the phone to ring.. But as soon as those two mom's and little gals wanted to go home, Grandparents where there to greet them and pictures were taken...

So welcome Elaina Grace and Delilah Cascade....  your massive family has been waiting for you.. so many cousins to play with.. and second cousins.. and aunts and uncles and grandparents... and of course the most important of all.. Mom's and Dad's... the pictures of the Dad's with their baby girls are precious...

This makes 27 great grand children for us...

Getting old is hell…

Getting old is hell…

As you read this, the King and I will be heading to Spokane for some eye surgery for the King.  He had this done a couple years ago, but something isn’t quite right, so they are going to fix it

If it goes as well as before, he should do just fine.  The last time he had it done, it was over before he knew it.  The testing took the longest of all.

What is different this time is… I don’t get to go inside.. No waiting room… have to sit out in the car and wait. THANK YOU VIRUS PROTECTION CRAP…  For about 5 hours. As the testing starts at 9 and the actual surgery isn’t until noon.  All I can say is, I better have bathroom privileges .. I have two books and a small book to read.. I am ¾ way thru one of them..  the other two are back ups..  Going to be a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng day.

Then the two hour trip home.. hopefully he gets out before rush hour.  I hate driving in the big cities.

So guess I will give an update of bitching if the waiting doesn’t go well..  lol…  I am sure all will be well. But I will be glad when we get home tomorrow afternoon.

It doesn’t have to be that way……..

It doesn’t have to be that way……..

At church yesterday, the Pastor was talking about how you don’t have to be at WAR with..

Yourself, others, and God…..  the name of the sermon was “It doesn’t have to be that way.”

While he brought up several good points about each one…

The one that stood out was the “others”…

In these days and ages… there seems to be a lot of that going around.  Mad at others… A lot of people angry because others don’t agree with their thinking.   Wasn’t there a thing about if we all thought alike, did alike, said alike… it would be a boring world?

But I do think people should lightening up.  I don’t know if it is old age or what with me.. or maybe it is my mandrake of two years ago, with my freedom in the words ……  I don’t care….

It isn’t I don’t care about anything? Or anyone… but I have found there is a heck of a lot that I don’t care about… Things I can’t change. Things that does not involve me, or things that doesn’t matter to me.  Sadly most of all is I don’t care enough to argue with anyone over dumb shit.   Yes, I said that…

As I told the King one day as we were having a bickering conversation…  you know.. I just don’t care.. I don’t care to argue with you anymore.. I don’t care about the subject.. do what you wish.. and I will do what I want to do.  But you suffer the consequences of your actions and most of all, of what your mouth says.

With others, I find myself going into the hearing of Charlie Brown and the teacher…  blah blah blah….  And my thoughts roam to something more pleasant.   Maybe I am just a doddering old broad. Lol… I don’t know if it is irritations or being mad…but do know I am tired of it.  So I have learn to let others get it out of their systems and then bide them good by and wish them well.

I guess filing it under my fav saying…   NOT MY RODEO AND NOT MY HORSE TO RIDE…

Being mad at anyone is such a waste of good time.. And at almost 81.. I don’t have a lot of that left.  Maybe if I was 40 years younger I might think it was worth my while to endure their side and have them listen to my side.. But at this age, I find it is easier and faster if I just let them let it all out, and we move on.

You see….it doesn’t have to be that way….. to have others control your thoughts and time.   Go enjoy yourself.  Be it digging in your garden, straighten out your yard…  watch over the grandkids or great grandkids… Find joy in your life. It is out there… it can be that way…

I AM WOMAN… HEAR ME ROAR…..

I AM WOMAN… HEAR ME ROAR…..

Thru the years for a 100 years.. we have heard all the stories of woman fighting for the right to have rights.. All rights, besides voting rights.   Some woman died.. A lot of them were beaten.. and even thrown in jail.

It started out with a day March 8th and then a week.. for woman and in 1986 it was changed to a month… WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH.

So now we have March… Women’s History Month.  I am hoping there will be programs on tv about the hardships that women before us went thru.. Some only know of those of the 1970’s .. not knowing about the ones in the 1880 and 1900… of the beating and etc.

As I champion women’s rights.. the right to vote, the right own own land, the rights to work and get a decent wage (still working on that one) the right for respect, the rights of equal in a marriage… it totally saddens me to see some woman today, who disrespect everything all these woman stood up for..

One of the greatest disappointments are the woman who champion Trump.  How can you even give that man a thought?  The nastiness of his remarks… “grab them by the pussy, they like that.. just go up and kiss them, if you have money you can get away with that,” he remarked....  The nastiness of his talking about strong women.  He gave token jobs to some women, but only those who praises him.

There is so much nastiness of this man, that was showed even on his own television show The Apprentice… way before he decide to run.. so it was nothing new…  But I am not going to go there any further.. just disappointing..

There are the women who work and turn their paychecks over to their husbands or boyfriends.  Saw a lot of that when I was working. In the days before auto check deposit, the company handed out payroll checks at noon. There would be several men in the parking lot, waiting for their girlfriends or wives to come out and hand over their checks.

Talks of drunkenness fights that night..  Seeing some of the results the next morning as they came back to work.

Those of us over 45, would ask, we worked hard for woman’s right for this?  As there weren’t many who stood up and dumped the guy.  Sad…

So hopefully you all will pay attention to the programs that will be on thru March..   and understand what it cost many women, so you all can get the jobs you got, the vote that you should be doing, the equal of your marriage.

I use to tell my daughters.. you can do anything you want to do, be who ever you want to be, work at any job you chose.. BUT you have to work hard for it. You have to want it bad enough to stand up.  The only one who can stop you is YOU.

NEVER THE LESS, SHE PERSISTED…

"Nevertheless, she persisted" is an expression adopted by the feminist movement, especially in the United States. It became popular in 2017 after the United States Senate voted to silence Senator Elizabeth Warren's objections to confirmation of Senator Jeff Sessions as U.S. Attorney General. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell made this remark in defense of the silencing, during his comments following the vote.

It did not silencer her..

I HOPE YOU TOO WILL…. NEVER THE LESS, PERSIST..

Good by February, hello March

Good by February, hello March

Ah, the end of February. Beginning of March and SPRING.. YEA.. SPRING.. YEA  SPRING..     Ok, so I am probably ahead of my self a tiny bit.. After all this is IDAHO.. and we in Idaho.. know that there is still room for snow storms and low temps… And at the end.. RAIN…   But it is promising… so THINK SPRING!!!

I do want the water..  rain that is… after all we need it in the summer.. Come July and August when the temps of HELL, come with the weather and sunshine…  we NEED water… the ponds need to fill, the springs, rivers and lakes.. and wells.. all need water.  So will take the rain as well..

Really be nice if we could nave sun rays thro those sun clouds.. Or maybe… I heard one time that the reason why Puerto Rico had wonderful gardens and flowers was because they had rains in the early mornings and sunshine all afternoon… I could live with that.

We have a green house that the King built about 5 years ago.. and we have made a slap happy attempt to start a garden within.. and have starters for the outside of it…  But this year.. I think I will clean it out about mid March and then do a serious attempt this time. After all,  I do have lots of time on my hands..  especially if I stay off the computer.  Ha ha.
