In the news is Safe Haven Law.
The one making the news lately is Nebraska
because they didn’t put an age limit to the word children.
So people were showing up and dropping off their children.
Many of them teens. And some are from other states.
People have made judgments against these parents.
But these people have never walked in these parents’ shoes.
There are a lot of disturb children out there.
Bipolar and other problems. Problems so heavy that the
parents can’t handle the kids.
These are girls as well as boys..
These children are verbally abusive and also a lot of
them are physically abusive to their parents.
Especially single moms.
They have even asked the courts. Most of the time the courts
are not helpful at all. And the rare times, they put the kids in a
temporary home, of which it cost the parent over $400 a month.
When these are single parents, especially women, where are they
going to get an extra $400 a month? So the kids and the family slip
thru the cracks of life. Sometimes leading to the beatings of children,
siblings, by the trouble child. Even murder. You can blame it
on broken homes, but that isn't the answer..we need answers, not
blame. There has been single parent homes for 100's of years. Now
it is worse. Woman who try so hard to keep family together. Even
single men. They need help, not put downs.
Some times the kids end up on the street. There seems to be
no back up for parents. This Safe Haven did. And now that loop
has closed as well. Hopefully the exposure on the news brings this
problem to surface and there can be some support and answers
for these children and parents. The rich can send their kids to
private behavior schools. For the low incomes families there is no
place. What is a parent to do? When that child is an endangerment
to the other kids in the family?
I truly hope the Safe Haven has open doors for review in courts
for these parents to get help.
I hope it opens up conversations and support for the families.
