Do you remember when your kids were growing up, and you found
yourself frustrated because you would tell them something.. and they
would doubt you, or flat out not believe it… YET…their friend could
say the same thing and it was gospel? Or the friend would tell them
something, and you would tell them it wasn’t so.. and they believed the
friend? And you would have to go thru the trouble of proving it so, and
still the child had doubts? How frustrating is that?
Now as an adult, you can be talking to a friend and you disagree with
something political, and you can’t believe what they are telling you because
you know it is so very wrong. And when you suggest that it isn’t quite true,
trying to soften it… and they get angry. And then when you go thru the trouble
of finding the truth for them… and they still won’t believe you. They rather
believe a lie, or a spin that has no truth to it… How frustrating is that.
Only difference is… you can walk away from your friend in amazement that they rather believe their spin/lie…. But with your children you want to make sure they do have the
truth… Only mix is, when the child becomes an adult and won’t believe what you
say. But I think that might hurt more, because they rather believe you are misinformed,
(they don’t dare say their parent lied) than believe the truth in front of them.
Yes, frustrating…
