Where did that produce come from?

People seem to be building bigger
homes.. Some up to over 5,000
square feet. I think they better
rethink their ideas on that.

They should think of what area
they can use for gardens. Not
flower gardens which they seem
to be interested in.

I think we should start rethinking
the Victory Gardens. For those of
you under 50, who don't remember
them or your folks talking about them,
it is a garden for the household.

People had Victory Gardens even
on the block that families in the area
shared. Everyone one worked it. You
either had an area that was just yours,
which was about 5 rows, or you join a
garden club that each had their duties
for the garden. You weeded on Mondays
and Thursdays, and etc. And then got
a share of it.
Others had their own gardens in their yards.

The reason why I say this is, there are getting
to be more and more vegetables and fruits from
foreign lands. From countries that don't have the
same standards that USA has. One of those can
be seen in the dog food wheat scandal of late. But there
is also others. Even our own country has had
problems, like e-coli in the lettuce.

People are going to have to rethink about
canning and freezing their own produce.
After all, when you pick up a garlic at the
store, is it China or is it USA? What about
the rest. Where was it grown? How was it?
We think of fresh veggies and fruit as being the
best of the deal as oppose to can.

You can only be sure... if you grew it yourself.
So better be giving yourself some garden area.
Or if you need that 5,000 sf home, maybe you
better have a green house in it.

Hi Cis, how right you are (with the food nowadays). It isn't so much the foreign countries that have different standards than we do, it's our OWN Dept of Agriculture that is not doing a very good job of inspecting food that's coming in from overseas. Got to blame our own government (AGAIN!) for that!

The bad spinach of a a few months ago all came from the U.S. I don't even like to use the word "farms" anymore, the "family farm" is just about kaput...they're all big rich foreign conglomerates now. My Dad wouldn't eat an egg from a grocery store...we had a lake cottage and we'd go down the road to a farm where we'd get eggs that their hens practically just squeezed out a couple hours ago..hahaha. Those eggs were FRESH!!

We had it so much better in the "olden" days, I think. Now? We are all scared spitless, aren't we? Gotta worry about our food, our water, even the air we breathe!
I just feel sorry for my grandchildren and *their* kids (if they ever have any!!).
